Knitted Hat
A great way to use up leftover yarn!
Materials/Notes: The best results come from using 4 ply yarn, but you can vary the results by using just about any yarn, or multiple yarns of similar weight and different colors. It is recommended that if you use different colors, change colors only at the end of a row. You'll need one set of U.S. size 6 (4 mm) needles. Recommended yarns include Cascade 220, Malabrigo Merino Worsted, Mission Falls 1824 Wool, and Vermont Organics O-Wool.
Instructions:
Using U.S. size 6 needle, cast on 120 stitches.
K2, p2 across entire row.
Repeat this row until the work measures 4 inches.
Knit the next row, then purl the following row. (Stockinette stitch.)
Repeat once.
Next row (RS): K13, k2tog; rep to end of row.
Next row (WS): Purl across.
Work in stockinette stitch over next two rows.
Next Row: K12, k2tog; rep to end of row.
Next Row: Purl across.
Work two rows in stockinette stitch.
Next row: K11, k2tog; rep to end of row.
Next row: Purl across.
Work two rows in stockinette stitch.
Next row: K10, k2tog; rep to end of row.
Next row: Purl across.
Work two rows in stockinette stitch.
Next row: K9, k2tog; rep to end of row.
Next row: Purl across.
Work two rows in stockinette stitch.
Next row: K8, k2tog; rep to end of row.
Next row: Purl across.
Work two rows in stockinette stitch.
Next row: K7, k2tog; rep to end of row.
Next row: Purl across.
Next row: K6, k2tog; rep to end of row.
Next row: Purl across.
Continue every knit row to decrease according to pattern until there are 16 stitches on needle at end of knit row. Next row, purl 2 together across entire row. Thread wool through remaining stitches and fasten off. Sew up side seam.
