Knitting Color: Design Inspiration from Around the World
By Brandon Mably (of the Kaffe Fassett Studio)
$24.95

This book is part knitting manifesto, part travelogue and part pattern gallery. Mably, who teaches Kaffe Fassett's Color in Design workshops worldwide, offers 20 bright patterns inspired by his travels. There's a South African garbage can that becomes a pillow (page 122), a jumble of Indian oil barrels that become a jacket (page 85) and a Venetian piazza that becomes a cardigan. Not a bad collection of souvenirs! The color combinations can be a big jarring to those of us who are less adventurous in our color choices (the Fire Maze Jacket just hurts my eyes), but there is no reason you cannot change the palette of each project to suit your tastes. If you can't take a trip this year, travel vicariously through this book. –Kimberly Ligocki
