O-Wool and Decapi

Organic Wool

As you can see, we just got in a new shipment of yarn! O-Wool from the Vermont Organic Fiber Company is new to our store and we are excited to share this wonderful fiber with you!

The K2TOG community values environmental consciousness. We do our best to operate and live in a way that is friendly to the earth, and that includes partnering with companies that share those values.

Vermont Organic Fiber Co. is one of those companies – so much so that the yarn was delivered to our store in the most earth-friendly way we've ever seen. The yarn was grouped in loose bundles with strands of yarn, rather than an abundance of plastic bags, as you can see in the picture. These bundles are also known as Decapi (the young cousin of the Octopus).

In addition to being environmentally conscious, this wool is quality fiber – if you have ever stepped foot in our store, you know that we care about offering our customers quality products.

There are three different types O-Wool – all of which we carry.

  • Classic (in the background of the picture) is just what it's name implies – a worsted weight 100% 4-ply organic merino wool.
  • Classic 2-Ply (foreground) is the fingering-weight version of Classic.
  • Balance (in the center) is a 50/50 blend of organic cotton and organic merino wool that has a beautiful tweedy, earthy look to it and a nice, soft touch.
  • The colors are beautiful and natural, both in how they are created and how they look. No harsh chemicals are used in processing and the dyes are low-impact and metal-free. That's something to be excited about!

We also carry many of the beautiful O-Wool patterns such as the one Ellen is currently working on - the Cozy Wrap Cardigan knit using Balance. She's modified the pattern to be seamless and is doing the sleeves two at a time using the Magic Loop technique.

We are very pleased to be sharing this new fiber – stop by to take a look, have a feel and fall in love with this yarn just like we have!

In other news, we've got some new products in, fresh from Ellen and Karen's trip to TNNA (The National NeedleArts Association holds a trade show twice a year in Long Beach for wholesalers and retailers).

  • Susan Bates Silverado Needles – a new to the store, less expensive option for circular needles
  • Beautiful knit stix and shawl pins from Gita Maria
  • Large shipment of new books from Interweave Press! Includes the new Harmony Guides, Crochet Me from the webzine, CrochetMe.com
  • and many, many more!

We've got a lot more coming as well, so keep an eye out for new fibers and supplies to keep your needles and hooks flying.
